Simon Sinek and a Milkshake

Parents,

This is video of a 15 minute interview with author and speaker, Simon Sinek. It came out in October of 2016 and has 6 million views. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend watching it. If you have seen it, it's worth watching again.

First watch it alone and take notes.

Then watch it with your teenager and ask them questions about the talk. I've given some potential questions below that you can adapt according to the age of your kid.

What if you took your laptop and your teenager to Chick-fil-A one night around 8:30pm? It closes at 10, so that'll give ya 90 minutes to down some delicious milkshakes, watch Sinek's 15-minute talk, and discuss. You can also download the video here if you want to save it to your laptop.

Questions for Discussion

  1. What do you think about what Simon says?
  2. How do you feel about how much time I, as your parent, spend on my phone?
  3. How do you feel about your "relationship" with your phone?
  4. What do you think we could do differently as a family in regards to our phones and distractions?
  5. What is stressing you out these days?
  6. Do you feel like you know how to form deep, meaningful relationships or do you feel like most of your friendships are superficial?
  7. What is something that is really hard for you to wait for these days?
  8. What is a "mountain" you are facing, what is something difficult in your life?
  9. How can I help?
  10. Would you be willing to pray with me and ask for God to help us through all this stuff?
