RYM Weekly 9.5.18

AP Theology and Drama of Scripture
This Sunday, September 9th, we will be launching our new Sunday Morning courses for our middle and high schoolers during the Middle Hour.
The middle schoolers will be going through the Drama of Scripture. This is a curriculum that Dr. Jason Myers has helped us layout that will give middle schoolers an understanding of how the Bible tells one complete story.
For the high schoolers, we will be starting our AP Theology course which will continue teaching doctrinal truth about our faith, as well as dive more deeply into helping high schoolers understand the theology in the Lord’s Prayer, the Nicene Creed, the Ten Commandments, and the Beatitudes. We are so grateful to have Dr. Nathan Hedman leading our AP Theology class!

SNL Family Kick-Off
This Sunday night we have the first Sunday Night Live: September 9th from 6-8 PM. To begin the year we are inviting siblings and parents to our first SNL! We have a fun night planned for the entire family so please try to arrive right at 6:00 pm to start off the night! We’ll have pizza, fellowship, and FUN as we kick-off the year!

SNL Pizza Money Due This Sunday!
It's that time of the year again for us to not deplete our youth ministry budget, so we try to collect money for the food we provide on Sunday nights! We ask parents to contribute $60/student to help cover food for all SNLs and small group nights for the semester! That’s a steal of a deal!  If you can write a check to "Church of the Redeemer" and put "Youth Ministry food" in the memo, that would help a ton! You can bring it on Sunday mornings over the next two weeks and give it to Valerie or Melissa! If you’d like to donate any extra money to cover kids who are unable to pay, that would be a blessing as well!
High School Guys Bike Party for Sam at the Walt's
On Sunday, September 23rd, after the 11am service at church, all high school guys are invited to Sam Walt's house to celebrate his birthday with lunch and bike riding. Sam lives on a bike trail that leads from his house to Northern High School. The plan is for guys to get their bikes to church and then load them up in John Walt's truck and head from church to the Walt's farm. We'll be there all afternoon and John and I will bring the bikes and guys back in time for SNL. That night at SNL we will be working on the farm and serving together as part SNL, so it'll be ok to be sweaty after the bike ride.
9th and 10th Grade Girls to Tasha Cobbs Concert
On November 3rd, Valerie is taking any 9th and 10th grade girls who are interested to a Tasha Cobb’s concert. The concert starts at 8:00 pm in Charlotte so we would leave at 3:00 pm from Valerie’s house (1712 Friar Tuck Road), and have dinner in Charlotte before heading the concert. Because the concert will end so late all the girls are invited to stay the night at Valerie’s and we’ll all head to church together at 10:00 am for the middle hour on Sunday November 4th. The cost of the concert is $25 and we need this money by this Sunday September 9th to purchase the tickets as a group. The night of the concert we ask that your girls bring $15 this will cover dinner that night, help with the cost of gas, and breakfast Sunday morning. If you have any additional questions or are interested in joining us you can contact Valerie. You can check out Tasha’s music here.

Youth Serving

Our hope is that each of the middle or high schoolers would be plugged into a Sunday morning ministry team where they can serve once/month. We already have 20+ youth serving in children’s ministry, but there are other great spots for them to plug in (worship, sound, welcome, farm, etc…) Talk with your child about where they would like to serve.

Small Group Night Hosts

Fall is upon us and we are looking for hosts for our monthly small group nights. Small group nights are a time once a month in our semester to slow down for our routine SNL and to sit and talk in smaller groups over a meal with your children.

Our small group nights will take place October 7th, November 4th, and December 2nd. Small group nights take place on the first Sunday of the month from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Hosting a group doesn’t take much you simply provide a meal and a place for the group to sit and fellowship. If you are interested in hosting you can contact Valerie with the date and the group you would like to host.

No Wednesday Morning Prayer

Last week, we wrapped up our Wednesday Morning Prayer for the summer with a fun day at Hanging Rock! We have had an amazing time getting to spend time with your kids on Wednesday mornings. If you are interested in doing the prayer service as a family, we provided your children with daily readings that span from the last day of camp to Labor Day to allow them to do morning prayer on their own in the Camp Booyah notebook, and we’ve also provided the readings here.

Teen Volunteer Appreciation and Training

For any youth who are interested in serving in our children's ministry and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, there will be a training time on this Sunday August 26 at 10am in the Grove. Find out how your student can help bring scripture to life for students younger than them!

Summer Sundays

We’ll be continuing our series we kicked off earlier this summer on the ten commandments called “Free Me”  we’ll be combining middle and high school for this time called Summer Sundays! Be sure to have your kids to church by 10:00!
