Student Leadership Team (SLT)
Each year we appoint 3-6 middle schoolers and 3-6 high
schoolers to serve on our Student Leadership Team. We look for students with
the following 4 qualifications:
- Following Christ
- Living with integrity
- Serving with humility
- Respected by peers and parents
The SLT meets monthly with the youth staff to help provide
direction for the youth ministry. They help make decisions and serve as leaders
for their peers in our discipleship environments.
Booster Club
A group of youth parents who act as a prayer team/sounding
board for our youth staff. They help with transportation to youth events,
providing food, and a general support team for the youth ministry. They meet
three times each year (April/Aug/Nov) and pray consistently for our teenagers
and youth leaders.
Middle School Catechist (MSC)
We would like to have a team of 6 Middle School Catechists,
3 men and 3 women, who lead ‘The Q’ on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sunday mornings of
each month. One catechist would lead the teaching time each week and 2-3 others
would be scheduled to be in the class to assist and build relationships with
middle schoolers. These roles would rotate each week so one person would end up
teaching once every 2 months and assisting in ‘The Q’ on the alternating
month.
Time commitment: ‘The Q’ will meet 9 times in the fall of
2015 (Sept 13 & 20, Oct 4 & 18,
Nov 1, 15 & 29, Dec 6 &
20). We ask that you be present at least once/month, so 4-5 Sunday
mornings/semester. Curriculum provided. 11th/12th graders can also apply to be Middle School
Catechists.
High School Catechist (HSC)
We would like to have a team of 6 High School Catechists, 3
men and 3 women, who lead ‘Drive’ on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sunday mornings of
each month. One catechist would lead the teaching time each week and 2-3 others
would be scheduled to be in the class to assist and build relationships with
high schoolers. These roles would rotate each week so one person would end up
teaching once every 2 months and assisting in ‘Drive’ on the alternating month. Time commitment: ‘Drive’ will meet 9 times in the fall of
2015 (Sept 13 & 20, Oct 4 & 18,
Nov 1, 15 & 29, Dec 6 &
20). We ask that you be present at least once/month, so 4-5 Sunday
mornings/semester. Curriculum provided.
Middle School Small Group Leader (SGL)
SGLs help lead ‘WAHO’ on Wednesday afternoons. The minimum
commitment would be from 5:15pm-6pm, which is when small groups will occur, but
ideally SGLs would be able to be there from 4:30-6pm and assist with rides when
needed. They could assist with teaching but will primarily be responsible for
leading a small group of middle schoolers, divided by grade and gender. The
expectation would be that SGLs build relationships with their small group
members outside of WAHO and be in weekly communication with them in a mentor
role. 11th/12th graders can also apply to be Middle School Small Group Leaders.
Time commitment: WAHO will meet 7 Wed/semester.
High School Small Group Leader (SGL)
SGLs help lead ‘SNL’ (Sunday Night Live) from 7-8:30pm every
other Sunday night. They could assist with teaching but will primarily be
responsible for leading a small group of high schoolers, divided by grade and
gender. The expectation would be that SGLs build relationships with their small
group members outside of SNL and be in weekly communication with them in a
mentor role. Time commitment: SNL will
meet 7 Sundays/semester.
Mentors
We ask ALL of our youth leaders to serve as mentors,
intentionally building relationships with 1-2 students (of the same gender)
outside of our discipleship environments. This can be done with monthly 1-1 or
1-2 hangouts, attending their events (sports, musicals, etc.), inviting the
student over for dinner, getting to know their families, texting and calling
them, etc. We believe that ‘kids don’t care what you know unless they know that
you care.’ To earn the right to be heard
on Sunday mornings and Sunday and Wednesday nights, we make sure kids know that
we love them during the rest of the week as well.
