OTHER YOUTH EVENTS THIS WEEK
6.22 - Thursday Night Guitar Lessons with Leia Renslow (7PM-8PM)
Come to Drew's house to learn to play guitar! Bring $5 for lessons taught by Leia Renslow, Drew Hill, Austin Drake and Lindsey Horton. All $ will go towards Leia's fundraising efforts for YWAM. If your child is interested in learning guitar, this summer is a great time to get started. They don't need to have a guitar to come and learn.
6.25 - Sunday Night Man Night (5:30PM-7PM)
The first Man Night of the summer! This summer, the middle and high school guys will be meeting up to do manly things and talk about what the Bible says about being a man of God. This week, we'll meet at the Cici's on Battleground (3379 Battleground Avenue) at 5:30. Bring your Bible, money for dinner, and a friend! There's also a discount for students if you bring a student ID. Justin McWilliams will be leading this time.
6.25 - Sunday Night Dance & Romance (6PM-7:30PM)
This summer, the ladies of Redeemer Youth will be getting together to learn various dance routines and talk about romance and God's Word! Make sure to wear clothes you can dance in and bring a Bible. Location TBD. Text Lindsey if you want to come!
CAMPING TRIPS RECAP
Our first ever RYM camping trips were a success! The ladies spend the past couple of days at Montreat while the guys were near Brevard, NC.
During the Glamping Trip, the ladies pushed themselves on an 1,000 foot hike (pictured right), while training their ears and minds to hear from the Lord. It was a great opportunity for them to unplug and dive into female fellowship. The Man Trip was filled with hiking, jumping off waterfalls, frog giggin', and getting closer to each other and the Lord! Check out the Man Trip recap video here!
The Invitation
Written by Justin McWilliams
So far, I've been in Greensboro for a month. Over this month I've had the extreme pleasure of being able to work with the youth at Church of the Redeemer. I've worshipped with them, launched water balloons at them, cooked up the frog legs that they caught, participated in fine dining (CiCi's) alongside them, and so many more things. Throughout each of these things, I've noticed a common theme - the hesitancy to include their friends. After the Color War, I reached out to a middle school student to thank him for being there. He responded with, "Thanks for 'letting' me come." While I was reaching out to a high school student about going camping, he asked me, "Am I 'allowed' to bring a friend?"
I'm unsure why students think that these events are closed off to the public, that new people aren't allowed to come, but I know that this mentality has to change! The problem isn't that kids don't feel welcome when they come to Redeemer Youth. Every time I meet a new student they tell me that they've never felt so welcome before! This youth group is so open to others and does a phenomenal job of including those that are on the "outside". So, my plea to you is this; Parents, have your kids invite their friends! Students, bring your friends! Ultimately, the message here is to not be afraid to invite someone new to Redeemer Youth, we'd love to have them!
Wednesday Morning Prayer (10am-11:30am)
Each Wednesday morning this summer middle and high schoolers will gather for a time of prayer and studying scripture. We typically will follow this time with lunch and a fun youth activity. We will meet at the Hill house until we're ready to move in at New Garden Park in July!
Last summer we went through "The Aim of My Heart" together. This year, our summer devotional is "The Blue Book" by Jim Branch. It's similar to TAOMH and was written by a friend of mine who has been on staff with Young Life and a pastor for many years! He's giving us a great deal, $10/book. They're $16 on Amazon. Please send $10 with your child to morning prayer this week and we'll send them home with a great devo book that we'll all do together this summer.
SUMMER CALENDAR
Find a digital copy of the youth summer calendar here ! If you click on the events you'll be able to see more details about the events.
Our theme for the summer is "Hearing God." We're going to focus on that concept during all of our summer events. How do we tune out the noise of the world and pay attention to the true voice of God? Last summer our theme was "Fix our Eyes." This summer we're going to focus on "listening" as opposed to looking.
