RYM Weekly: 8.14.18

Alongside Course

Alongside began last week and continues the next two following Sundays, August 19 and 26. We would love for you to join us as we discuss walking alongside teenagers through one of their most difficult stages of life. If you weren't able to make the first one, you can still join us! Find more info here.

Last Wednesday Morning Prayer!
This Wednesday (8.15.18) is our last Wednesday Morning Prayer of the summer. We will be taking our annual trip to Hanging Rock State Park and will be leaving from the church at 10:00 am and will return at 5:00 pm. This year we will hike first, and then doing the waterfall after the hike. If you, as a parent, are able to drive and join us, please contact Melissa.

Summer Sundays

Be sure to have your kids to church by 10:00am on Sundays for our discipleship time with both the middle and high schoolers in the youth room. Beginning Sept 9th we will launch our new classes for the fall.

Teen Volunteer Appreciation & Training

For any youth who would be interested in serving in our children's ministry and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, there will be a training time on August 26. Find out how your student can help bring scripture to life for students younger than them!

Small Group Night Hosts

Fall is almost upon us and in an effort to get ahead of the game we are already looking for hosts for our monthly small group nights. Small group nights are a time once a month in our semester to slow down from our routine SNL and to sit and talk in smaller groups over a meal with your children.

Small group nights take place on the first Sunday of the month (October 7th, November 4th, and December 2nd) from 6:00-8:00 pm. Hosting a group doesn’t take much- you simply provide a meal and a place for the group to sit and fellowship. If you are interested in hosting you can contact Valerie with the date and the group you would like to host.

Family SNL Kickoff
Siblings and parents are invited to the first Sunday Night Live of the fall on Sunday, September 9th, 6-8pm.  Please save the date for a night of food, fellowship, and FUN as we kickoff the year!

Alongside: A 3-week Course for Parents and Youth Leaders

Parents,

I think you have one of the hardest jobs in the world- parenting your teenagers. Because of that, we're offering a 3-week course in August to practically help you come alongside your kids.

This course is open to parents, grandparents, teachers, youth leaders, and anyone who wants to better understand how to love teenagers with the gospel. The content for the course is based on my book, which officially releases on August 20th. All course attendees will receive a pre-release copy!

WHEN

The classes will be on August 12,19, 26- three Sundays after church from 1-2:30pm in the high school room. Lunch will be available beginning at 12:45pm.

COST

$30/person includes 3 catered lunches along with a pre-release copy of the book. If your children need to stay at church while you're in the class, we will open the middle school room for them to hang out there. You can also pay an additional $5/person to add lunch for them. Payments can be made by check (payable to: Church of the Redeemer, "Youth Ministry" in the memo) or cash during the first class on August 12th.

Sign up here.

Check out Alongside on Amazon here.

PRE-TRIP INFO

Parents of Man Trippers,

Adam and I are pumped to take your high schoolers on the trail for a few days. We'll be exploring the wilderness around Asheville and Brevard, NC- Pisgah National Forest, Gorges State Park, and some off the beaten path waterfalls. During the trip we'll be talking about the concept of hearing from God and paying attention to His voice. Please contact me with any questions.

As a dad of three, I promise to make your kids' safety a priority. This is my 20th year leading this same trip and by God's grace, we've never had any major accidents. It is currently looking like rain, which is a big "damper" on a trip when you're in the woods the whole time, but we'll keep praying for sunshine!

Let's grow some chest hair!

RYM 2018 Summer Calendar

Parents,

We are so excited for a summer full of fun with your middle and high schoolers! Below is our Redeemer Youth Ministry (RYM) Summer Calendar.

  • We take a break from SNL (Sunday Night Live) during the summer months and instead gather on Wednesday mornings at 10am for Morning Prayer, followed by another activity. Sometimes those activities last most of the day, others are shorter. Times are listed below. We try to have a variety of events that are free and those with minimal costs.
  • We combine DRIVE (high school) & The Q (middle school) on Sunday mornings and are doing a Summer Sundays series called “FREE ME” about the 10 Commandments from 10:15-10:55 in June and August. Summer Sundays will not take place during July when we have one combined worship service at 10:00 AM instead of two 8:30am and 11am services.
  • Rising 6th graders- graduated high school seniors are invited to all our summer youth events.
  • NGP stands for New Garden Park
  • WMP stands for Wednesday Morning Prayer. Wednesday Morning Prayer typically takes place from 10 to 11:30 AM at New Garden Park, but please read each event carefully for the drop-off and pick-up location
  • We will need lots of parents to help with driving to the activities that are not at New Garden Park or are not only at one location. If you can help drive, email Valerie at VSagero12@gmail.com.
  • Many of our summer events are designed so your kids can invite friends! Please encourage them to bring friends, especially to the June 10th summer kickoff event!

Grace + Peace,
Valerie, Justin, Drew and Melissa
