The high schoolers (Drive) are meeting in room 104 and middle schoolers (The Q) are meeting in room 111.
On Sunday mornings the high schoolers are being led by Nathan Hedman, Evy Warring, Graham Monroe, Caroline Van Wyk and Greta Stanley. The middle schoolers are being led by Drew Hill, Faith Howell, Erinn Murphy-Wilson, Doug West, Sarah West and Josh Hedrick. Nathan Hedman, a fabulous teacher (professor at HPU) is heading up 'Drive' while I am heading up 'The Q.'
Win Chick-fil-A Gift Cards
In an effort to encourage the kids, we are giving away CFA gift cards to any middle or high schooler who gets 20 million points. There are 5 different ways to get points each Sunday morning.
- Show up = 1 million points
- Bring a friend = 1 million/ first time visitor (2 million max/Sunday)
- Memorize your verse for the week = 1 million points
- Bring your Bible/notebook/pen & take notes = 1 million points
- If your team wins the quiz at the end of the lesson = 1 million points
We have a scorecard and are keeping track of points. Win someone gets 20 million (which can happen after 4 times meeting together) they can go in the grab bag for a prize. Some are worth $5, some $10 and some worth $20.
The Q
Each week in 'The Q' we will be discussing questions from The Anglican Catechism. You can download a PDF or Word copy of the entire catechism here. You can also buy a leather bound copy for $16 on Amazon here.
During our first weeks in The Q we have been discussing the question "How does God transform you?"
God will transform me over time through:
- Corporate and private worship
- Prayer and Bible reading
- Fellowship with God's people
- Pursuit of holiness of life
- Witness toward those who do not know Christ
- And acts of love toward all.
This past week we focused on corporate worship and the importance of the local church in our lives. I used this article to guide a discussion with the kids about the difference in private and corporate worship. It would be valuable for you to ask you middle schoolers why they think it's important to worship together at church on Sunday mornings and see if they remember anything from our discussion yesterday. You can see my notes here.
Drive
The high schoolers had a similar discussion in Drive focused around 'doing church' and understanding the word 'liturgy' meaning 'the work of the people.' The last 2 things Jesus commanded in the Great Commission were for us to proclaim the word and to baptize (word and sacrament). Ask your high schoolers what they took away from Drive yesterday.
Acts 2:42
Please help your kids work on memorizing Acts 2:42 for October 4th. They can memorize it in any translation. “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Acts 2:42
