Parents of Rising 6th Graders,
We're SO excited to be on this journey with you as your fifth graders prepare to move into middle school. As a youth ministry team, we count it a great privilege to come alongside you and partner together in loving your kids with the gospel.
For those of you I don't yet know, my name is Valerie Sagero, and I am doing a two-year Youth Ministry Residency at Church of the Redeemer! Over the next few months, I will be in contact with you about the plan for transitioning your rising 6th graders into the youth group. As part of that transition, we're excited to invite your children to some upcoming youth events this spring.
Booyah Spring Fling
Three times a year we get together with other area Anglican churches:
- Booyah at the Barn happens in the fall
- The Booyah Spring Fling happens in March or April
- Camp Booyah each summer.
We'd love to invite your rising 6th grader to attend this year's "Booyah Spring Fling" which will take place on March 18th at Barber Park with an 80's theme we're calling "Back to the Booyah." From 3pm to 5:30pm we'll gather with other churches for games, worship, dinner, and lots of fun. This is a great opportunity for your whole family to come and see what we do as a youth ministry.
Rising 6th Grade Ice Cream Social
On Sunday, May 20th at 4:30pm we would love to meet with you and your kids to introduce them to their future youth leaders, hear from Drew, Melissa, and I about what we do at Redeemer Youth Ministry, and allow you and your students to ask questions and ease any nerves that come with the transition. Following the social, we'd love to invite any of your students who feel comfortable to stay for our weekly Sunday night meeting time from 6 to 8 pm where we focus more on "the heart" at SNL (Sunday Night Live). It's for 6th-12th graders. We do dinner , games, worship, a talk, and small groups divided by grade and gender. (On Sunday mornings, we focus more on "the head" and have our time of catechesis divided by middle (THE Q) and high school (DRIVE). Your kids will be invited to move up from Rt. 45 to The Q.)
Summer Kickoff Event
On the evening of Sunday, June 10th, we'll officially begin our summer activities as a youth ministry with a fun kick-off event that your students are invited to attend officially as SIXTH GRADERS in our youth group. More information about the time and location of this event will come in the next couple months, but save the date!
Camp Booyah
For those of you who do not yet have any children in middle or high school, sending your kids to a week of summer camp can feel like a huge unknown. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, but know that we are mindful of this big jump in your kids' lives and work hard to create a camp experience that is spiritually and emotionally safe for 6th graders all the way through 12th graders. If you would like to learn more about this mission camping adventure, you can watch a 3-minute video at CampBooyah.com.
