SNL/WAHO RECAP
This week at SNL and WAHO we discussed film and theology. Mikey Fissel joined us on Sunday night and led a discussion about how we consume media.
He showed different clips, like this one from Avengers.
In this clip Loki asks, "Is not this simpler? Is this not your natural state? You crave subjugation! You were made to be ruled. In the end, you will always kneel."
Mikey then asked, "How does this make you feel?" "Do you disagree with Loki?"
He then showed this clip to help us process how we can understand this scene through a theological framework.
It was a beneficial experience as I had multiple kids tell me afterwards that they had never thought about movies that way before. Ask your kids what they thought and tell Mikey thanks if you see him!
Operation Christmas Child
Redeemer Youth Ministry is also collecting boxes for Operation Christmas Child. It's a great way to serve with your family. Find out how to pack a shoebox here. You can bring them on Sunday mornings for the rest of October and November.

This Sunday: DRIVE, The Q, & Town hall
This Sunday we will have a shortened time for DRIVE and The Q because we will be having a town hall meeting immediately following a shortened service. I would like for the middle and high schoolers to be in the town hall meeting so they can be in the know about all that's coming up in the life of Redeemer. I have asked the 7 high schoolers on the Student Leadership Team to help me supervise the K-5th graders in the gym during the town hall.
Next Sunday: Camp Reunion at the Corn Maze
Next Sunday, Oct 25th, our middle and high schoolers are gathering with a 4 other Anglican churches in NC. It's a 'Camp Booyah reunion' of sorts, but even if you weren't able to go to camp this summer, still come! We hope to do more events like this on a regular basis with our sister churches.
We're going to Archdale, NC and the Kersey Valley Corn Maze. The cost is $15/kid which covers the corn maze, jumping pillows, and we're putting together a tail gate dinner to eat at one of the picnic shelters. The chicken, drinks and paper products will be provided, but we need you to send either a side dish or dessert (no nuts please) with your child to share with the group. Bring $15 cash or check made to 'Church of the Redeemer.'
To spice things up, we're also asking the middle and high schoolers to wear costumes!
The youth groups will gather from 3-6pm at Kersey Valley, so our youth group will meet at Western Guilford High School at 2:20pm and return around 6:45pm this Sunday. Parents and siblings are welcome to join us.
Please RSVP below if you're planning to come. Feel free to bring friends! And we will need some parents to drive so include that in your RSVP if you can drive and how many others you can take with you. Thanks!
